Ivy Sommer has been cooking since she was eight. The first jar she made was salt infused with red wine. Koby Sommer ate it on a steak on their first date. They still make every batch in Utah.

Most flavored salt is powder sitting on the crystal. The official FAQ says they reduce the real thing first, then infuse, so the flavor ends up inside. A pinch tastes like pickle or red wine, not like seasoning. Seven blends use licensed Real Salt from a Utah seabed. Breakfast Salt is double-smoked bacon. Summer Salt is wild honey.

Start with Red Wine on a steak, or Dill Pickle on popcorn, which is the jar people empty first. They also make Tequila Salt, Prickly Chipotle, and Bluebird Dandelion Sugar for a cocktail rim. Find them at the Downtown Salt Lake, Ogden, Wheeler Sunday, and Park Silly markets, or in shops including Atelier and The Neighborhood Hive.
