Derek Kitchen and Moudi Sbeity started Laziz with garbanzo beans. The official about page says that after they prevailed in Kitchen v. Herbert in 2013, the case that brought marriage equality to the Tenth Circuit, they sold homemade hummus to colleagues and friends, then at the farmers market. Catering, cooking classes, and a grocery line came next. The first restaurant opened in November 2016.
Laziz is Lebanese for tasty and lighthearted. The current rooms are 912 Jefferson Street West in the Granary and Sugar House Station at 2155 South Highland Drive, which is 21 and over. In 2022 the Netto and Hannon families joined as partners.
The homepage calls the rooms a gathering space of acceptance, good food, and love. You can eat there, order online, or book catering.
